What if…

14 Dec

He chose not to come?

In a previous post, I mentioned the wonder of the fact that God gave us His Only Begotten Son to a people so sinful and broken such as we, but lately I’ve been thinking about the obedience it required on Jesus’ part.

Without His coming, there would be no Christmas.

The twenty-fifth of December would pass without the celebration of the birth of our Savior and Lord.

For we would be without a Savior. We would not know His Lordship in our lives.

We would find no cards with Christmas wishes from loved ones in the mailbox.

No carols would be sung. No gifts would be given.

Sin would reign. Our world would be dark. We would be held in Satan’s grip with no hope of release.

What if He didn’t come?

I am so grateful for His obedience.

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Romans 5:19

Obedience that meant God clothed in flesh, sleeping in a cattle stall.

Obedience that meant the Sinless becoming the very essence of Sin.

Obedience that meant being stretched in shame upon splintered wood above the crowd He was to die for.

Obedience that gave grace though we are so undeserving.

Obedience that made us righteous when we are anything but in ourselves.

Obedience that gave us the blessings of this wondrous season called Christmas.

Think about it,

 What if He never came?

How different our lives would be.

Oh, but He did come!

Immanuel came,

God with us is now residing!

Happy 10 days til Christmas, sweet friends!
