Don’t Miss It!

21 Nov

It’ll be gone before we know.

Looking at the calendar,

Tomorrow and Tuesday bring full days at school with parent-teacher conferences. Wednesday, I’ll be baking and preparing for Thanksgiving day. Thursday, three dinners in three different counties will demand my attendance. Friday, I’ll be up early shopping to cross a few things off of a lengthy list. Back at school on Monday, for a few short weeks of teaching. Throw in hosting a baby shower, play rehearsals, and a thousands other things and I find myself exhausted and relieved as I cross off December 24th, just in time for Christmas!

With the calendar full to the brim with activities and To-Do’s, I have to be careful not to allow the demands and rush of the next few weeks to steal the joy that should come with this season.

I don’t want the busyness to keep me from the blessings that are present as I cross off the 33 short days leading up to Christmas!

I want to savor the season.

Linger a little longer at the dinner table this Thursday though there will be a hundred other places to be.

Soak in the sounds of family, thanking Him for blessing me with such tremendous gifts.

Prepare well now so I’m not frantically wrapping presents on Christmas Eve.

Notice each ornament on the tree, taking time to bake cookies and enjoy the comfort of home.

Discover the Truth packed into the Gospel of Luke once again even though I”ve heard the account a thousand times before.

Wear scarves and boots as colder temperatures arrive instead of complaining about them.

Give until I can’t give anymore though my selfish heart vies for attention to it’s own needs.

I don’t want to miss It.

I don’t want to miss Him as He reveals Himself through the traditions and wonder of December.

Thanksgiving and Christmas 2010 will be gone before we know it!

Don’t miss It!

“It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

James 4:14
