He is Mighty to Save.

31 Aug

Mighty to save sinners from the chains of their sin.

Mighty to save His children from their own selfish ambitions.

And once He’s saved them, He is faithful to fill their lives with the melody of a new song. A song that fills their once empty hearts with rejoicing and gladness.

After reading this verse in Zephaniah chapter three this morning, the thought of my Mighty and Saving God filled my heart throughout the day.

” The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” v. 17

My God is mighty to save. He can save those whose names have been on Prayer Lists for what seems like ages. He can save the souls of the little ones I’m preparing my classroom for this week. He saved me, once from sin and eternity without Him and then from my own plans and fruitless pursuits, and that proves He can. He can redeem them and show them what it’s like to have Him sing over them each and every day.

Have you ever heard Him sing?

This portion of Scripture seems puzzling at first, but as His children I believe we do. That’s if we’ll stay still long enough.

He calls us to stillness in Psalm forty-six ten.

“Be still and know that I am God…”

He longs for us to sit still so we can hear Him singing.

When we sit still before His throne, communing with Him through prayer and time in His precious Word, we can hear the sweet sound of our Savior’s song.

Sometimes it’s a song of peace when our hearts are heavy with sorrow. Sometimes a song of grace when we’ve failed Him. Other times it’s a song of strength when we feel weak and defeated. Then there are days when it’s simply a song of joy as He reminds of His ability to save!

And when we hear Him singing, we will soon find ourselves singing along.

On my way to school this morning, just after reading Zephaniah 3:17, this song came on the radio,

“Savior, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.

Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.”

Coincidence?

No.

Another reminder of how personal and real my God is?

Yes.

He is mighty to save.

He is faithful to sing.

I love my Lord!
