This Book…

27 Apr

I remember reading this description years ago in the front of a tiny New Testament Gideon Bible I used to carry to Vacation Bible School each Summer, but I recently came across it again.

THIS BOOK is the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners (who reject the Savior), and the happiness of believers.

Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.

It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you

It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter.

Here Paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed.

CHRIST is its grand subject, our good the design and the glory of God its end.

It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.

Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.

Follow It’s precepts and It will lead you to Calvary, to the empty Tomb, to a resurrected life in Christ, yes, to Glory, itself, for Eternity.

It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever.

It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Today marks my 200th post on the subject of this Blessed Book! It truly is my map, my compass, my comfort!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1

It is my way to know Him.

It is food to support and strengthen me when I am weak!

It is as the Prophet Jeremiah said, “the joy and rejoicing of mine heart!” (Jer. 15:16)

I long to fall more in love with It, with Him.

I would that It would spur to a living of It and not just a reading of It.

I love my Lord, and I love His Precious Word!

May it fill my memory, rule my heart and guide my feet!

To mark my 200th post, I would love for you to comment if you are a regular to my blog. Simply leave your name so that I know who it is that is reading daily, weekly or even once in a while! I would love to know who is reading what I post! Thanks, Friends!

“It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes!”
