Oh, What a Trade!

13 Jan

“He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall DOUBTLESS come again with with REJOICING, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:6

“…to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified!” Isaiah 61:3

Oh, what a trade! What a wonderful thought! We can surrender our sin, selfishness, and even our sulking for the fruit of the Spirit! I am so thankful that I can give Him my ashes, my mourning, my spirit of heaviness and my precious seed to get much better in return!

When “precious seed” is surrendered, it does seem like a ‘loss’. As a gardener prepares to surrender his tiny seeds to the soil, there’s a hint of worry that they may not grow, there’s a certain fear that they won’t reach their desired end. The same is true when we surrender our burdens for lost loved ones to saved, straying saints to return, and trying tests to come to an end. We worry in self that those prayers may never be answered and letting go is a challenge when we can’t yet see the outcome. Releasing that which is most precious is painful because it means we no longer control it and the outcome is no longer up to us!

Oh, but the Word promises we will “DOUBTLESS come again with REJOICING!” and we can be certain it is a promise that will be kept! We can trust our seeds to the Savior’s care because He promised yield in His time! When trusting them to Him, we are trusting them to the only Eyes that can see them while they are yet covered with soil. He can see the final result even when we see nothing.

Of course we will battle with questions, “Will there be enough rain?” “Will the sun be too hot?” “How long will it take?” (The latter is my most frequently asked!) But we can trust the answers to the Master Gardener Himself!

Sure there will be times during the waiting when we feel as if we are sitting with Job in a pile of “ashes”, but God wants to trade… “BEAUTY for ashes!”

And yes there will be nights when our pillows are wet with tears of “mourning”, but even still God wants to trade… “the oil of JOY for mourning!”

Oh and certainly there will be days when we bear the weight of a “spirit of heaviness” because the waiting seems too long and the yield is not yet evident, but guess what 🙂 God wants to trade!.. “the garment of PRAISE for the spirit of heaviness!”

He wants us to trust His perfectness and for His peace to rule in our hearts while we’re waiting! He wants us to be beautiful, joyful Christians filled with praise for His perfect work in our lives and in the sinners, saints, and situations that we have entrusted to His tender care!

The seed will “spring forth” (Isaiah 61:11) at the perfect time, not a minute early or a day late! And thankfully when it does, He will “be glorified!” If the Lord did the planting, we can be sure it will accomplish that which it was sent out to accomplish, and when He’s finished, we’ll be called “trees of righteousness!”

Surrender your “precious seed” today, and trust the outcome to the Savior! 🙂

*Orginally written and posted last April,
I wanted to share this again today!
Hope it was a blessing to you!*
