It’s Beginning to Look A lot like Christmas…

6 Dec

Is it really December 6th already? As I look at the calendar and realize that there’s only 2 full weeks left before Christmas, I am excited yet frightened! I haven’t even made my list so this means I haven’t even attempted shopping yet. It’s so very easy to let the stress and busyness of this sweet season crowd out the real Reason we celebrate in the first place, but this morning in church as we began singing our first Christmas carols of the season, I was challenged and amazed by this short line in Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!:

Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel

Challenged to stop counting the days and trying to plan it all out and just to take a moment to take Him in!

Jesus, our Emmanuel!

God with us! That word with means accompanying! God, the Infinite, Supreme Creator, accompanying His finite, sinful creation in human flesh! Wow!!!! 🙂

Pleased with man with man to dwell! To think that God was pleased to send His Precious Son into this world in order to redeem us! Pleased though He knew that the wooden manger in that Bethlehem barn would quickly become a wooden cross upon Calvary’s Hill. Pleased though a part of the Trinity had left His Throne in Heaven to make His Home on Earth. Pleased though He could already see the Price that would be paid thirty-three years later. Pleased because He knew that the Price paid would reconcile His erring creation! Amazing!

I think I was so struck by this phrase because it’s not often that we sing more than the first verses of Christmas carols, but I’m glad we did this morning! It was just what I needed to turn my mind toward the Christ of Christmas.

Looking forward to the coming weeks as He reveals more of His Truth through the sweetness of this Christmas season!

“…they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

Matthew 1:23
