My Godly Heritage

19 Sep

“The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.” Psalm 16:6

I’m a little behind with my posting this week! It has been a busy few days packed full of tons of stuff to do in regards to school, church, and family! It feels good not to be on a time schedule today and just to have time to breath! 🙂April2009 061

Friday is my day to visit with my Granny, and we spent time chatting about the week and about life in general. I have come to look forward to Friday afternoons! Later last night, my Mom Mom and I attended a Revival meeting together and enjoyed more sweet fellowship this morning at breakfast! And on my way home, I stopped to see my Mamal who has been a little under the weather this week. Her pleasant spirit though she wasn’t feeling up to par encouraged my heart in the short time I spent there. The older I get the more I appreciate the presence of such a godly heritage and realize how large of a blessing it truly is! When I think of these 3 women, the words consistent, diligent and strong come to mind.April2009 042

Consistently living for God despite trials and testing.

Diligently serving their husbands and families as they rise before the sun to accomplish the day’s tasks and accomplish them well.

Strong,  physically and spiritually speaking. At 72, 82, and nearly 90, these women are pictures of quiet strength. Never complaining and rarely resting though physically they bear the heavy burdens that come with age. Forever showing and teaching me what it means to be truly loving my Lord.LivingLifeNov.-Dec.08 094

I’ll never forget when we were on a vacation together, and I awoke in the early hours of the morning to my Mom Mom upon her knees, petitioning her God for the needs of the day ahead.

I’ll never be able to express what a difference the prayers of these faithful prayer warriors have made and continue to make in my life!

Before I was born, I know they prayed for my safe arrival.

Before I was saved, I know they prayed for my salvation.

And now as I face the demands of work, the blessings and sometimes burdens of ministry, and the excitement of God’s plans for my future, they are still praying!

Sometimes as a Christian young adult who desires to truly live for Christ, the journey can get lonely. It seems nearly impossible to find people in your age group who desire to do the same and who won’t view your striving to live godly in the light of a “holier than thou” attitude. (But as I have always said that most of my closest friends are under 5 and over 50! 😉 ) I’ve always been close to my grandparents but over the last 5 years, I have found the friendship and fellowship I’ve always searched for in time spent with them!

Sometimes the encouragement and example we need can be found within our own families!

It was so good to spend time with 3 of my most favorite people and 3 of the women that continually challenge me the most to be a godly woman in the midst of my ungodly generation. The virtuous woman described in the 31st chapter of Proverbs is a perfect description of these 3 godly women!

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs 31:9-31

I am so thankful for my godly heritage and the impact these women have made on my life. I praise the Lord that I have been so blessed!

Praying this weekend has been a restful one for you filled with lots of family time and fellowship with the Savior!
